Regional Training Workshop on “Reporting Labor Statistics to the ILO for Better SDGs Monitoring in the Arab Region"

Concluded on Wednesday, February 13 the work of the regional training workshop on “Reporting Labor Statistics to the ILO for Better SDGs Monitoring in the Arab Region" This workshop was organized in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The participants are expected to gain a better understanding of the needs of employment data in accordance with the ILO guides that govern the SDGs’ indicators that fall under the custodianship of ILO.

  1. To clarify the role of the ILO in monitoring and implementing activities to measure the SDGs' indictors at the regional and national levels, especially after the International Conference of Labor Statistics in October 2018 and new guide on decent work indicators;
  2. To introduce the methodology for each of the fourteen indicators that are under the custodianship of ILO, including the concept and the new definition of employment, decent work and informal economy;
  3. To identify the needs for data to produce disaggregated indicators and steps to be taken in each country to be able to meet these needs,
  4. To identify the traditional and modern sources that provide accurate data to measure the digital indicators related to employment in the SGDs and report on progress towards achieving them;
  5. To discuss measures for producing these indicators and interactions with ILO during these procedures and introducing the latest international standard classifications and use of software to extract decent work indicators;
  6. To review the tools for reporting on the indicators to ILO and accompanying templates.

Present at the workshop, experts from the ILO, attended by 17 participants representing 16 Arab countries in addition to participants from the National Audit Bureau - Sudan and the WFP Jordan
